I love the concept of Small Business Saturday: a day celebrating the aspirations realized by our friends, neighbors, and communities. A woman's vision to honor her dad's legacy with his favorite candies. A couple's dream come true of a coffee shop fueling the next generation of entrepreneurs. Countless success stories (both fulfilled and in-flight) are all celebrated with this special event.
The annual event offers so much more than the "feel good" - it makes business sense, too. Tax dollars stay local, jobs are created, and more unique goods find their way to the market.
So, as Small Business Saturday comes to an end, I find myself asking: "Why stop #shopsmall now?"
Honest to goodness truth? The rose tint of these glasses tend to fade as time wears on. The idea of ordering online sounds better and better as the winter chill arrives. It's hard to pass up that mailed catalog that is styled perfectly. And momma bear is literally the hardest person to shop for. In. Life.
Our mission at Jujuu is to empower intentional living, which involves nudging us (and especially me!) to think more mindfully about the things we do, goods we purchase, and lives we lead. I've got a lot to learn and changes are sure to be incremental. But, I promise you this: if I can do it, you definitely can, too, and I hope you'll join me on this journey.
From now on, you'll find a lot of things come across our blog: from highlights of incredible local makers to larger companies that are still driven by a social mission. We'll give you some sneak peeks into some of our favorite spots and tell you about goods we found that will even get our mom's vote of approval.
Have a local shop you love? Tell us more in the comments!
